Biography

 

Barbara Kapelj Osredkar (1974) is an author, director and set and costume designer.
Her most acclaimed works include The Tasks of Women: Hemming, Knitting, Weaving, Sewing (2000), A.D. Anno Demoni (2002), Drive (2005), The City of Sights (2006), the audio-visual installations Ours and Yours (2008), Knitting (2009), One Day and One Night (2011) and Explosion (2011). Her co-authored projects Kapelj – Semenič v sestavljanju (2012, in collaboration with Simona Semenič) and The Debt of RS (2013) were selected for the Slovene Drama Week programme; the latter is also part of the accompanying programme of Maribor Theatre Festival. In 2011, she presented at the City of Women the performance T-Shit, and in 2012, the project Dear Duša. She currently lives and works in Oslo, Norway.

 

Between the years 2013 and 2014 she lived in Oslo, where she participated in the performances "Nok en Same" and "Jeg er eneste som var på manen", and worked in the Ø-zone association, where she represented the Slovenian film and literary heritage. For the City of Women Festival, together with Leja Jurišić and Teja Reba, in 2013, a living monument was set up to 141 important women from Slovenian history under the title "I Walk Behind you and I Watch you". There she explored the areas of Ljubljana marked by these women and provided an artistic guide to these locations. In autumn 2014, she designed the visual and dramatic image of Simona Semenič's "43 Happy Ends" projects in New York, and "Second Time" at the City of Women, and she was the scene designer of the play "The Antichrist." In December 2014 she presented the authorial project " Do you dig? ", Together with the writer and musician Damir Avdic, and spoke about the fate and problems of migrants. In the series Forgotten 2015, on RTV Slovenia, she appeared in the lead role in the documentary about Lili Novy "On her paths". In 1993, she received the Sever Prize for her work in performing arts.
